Putting the Freeman baseball field together took a lot of hard labor and a lot of hours from volunteers.
The first responders from Fire District 8 have a personal connection to Freeman High School. They were the district first on scene when the calls about last September's school shooting came in. And they were the ones giving their time Thursday to help complete work on the baseball field.
The firefighters put in hours and hours of work, after they had already worked 24-hour shifts. For a firefighter, duty takes many forms. Whether it's a house in flames, an emergency medical call, or, sometimes, a school shooting at a school where many of their kids went.
