Spokane Fire Department paramedics now have a new life-saving tool at their fingertips. The department just debuted new clinical checklists in hopes of saving time and cutting down on mistakes on medical calls. Fire chief Brian Schaeffer said it's taken the department a year of research and training to get the checklists in its paramedics' hands. The booklets outline the most important responses to 12 different medical cases, from asthma attacks to cardiac arrest. Schaeffer said these illnesses were chosen since they're high in risk but low in frequency, so paramedics aren't as familiar with how to treat them.
