A homeowner started a grass fire that threatened homes while trying to kill gophers with a propane torch, Benton County fire officials said Wednesday. The fire damaged a home and threatened several others East Badger Road southwest of Kennewick. One trailer near the damaged home also caught fire. Officials said it burned between 20 and 25 acres of grassland, causing upward of $25,000 in damage. No injuries were reported. Crews responded after 2:30 p.m. and got the fire under control within a couple hours.
