A debris burn on private property got out of control Monday evening in the Washington Creek area near Chelan but was contained and extinguished in less than an hour by crews from Chelan Fire and Rescue. The fire department reported that as crews arrived winds were fanning the fire, with flames reaching three to five feet high. The initial crew on site was able to slow the fire until additional units arrived and surrounded the blaze. Chelan Fire and Rescue Chief Timothy Lemon reminds residents that though it is cooler outside, conditions remain very dry and when burning you are required to stay on site until the fire has been completely extinguished.
