The recent spate of cooler temperatures and elevated humidity levels in Eastern Washington has led the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife (WDFW) to lift fire restrictions on many of the lands they manage there. According to the manager of WDFW’s Lands Division Cynthia Wikerson, the action is consistent with, and follows a similar lifting of restrictions by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), which is responsible for fire protection on many wildlife areas in the state. "This change reflects an easing of fire danger in eastern Washington, but we still urge campers and anyone else heading outdoors this fall to be extremely cautious with campfires and any other activity that could spark a wildfire," said Wilkerson.
