Hundreds of guests were evacuated in the predawn darkness after fire broke out at the Suncadia Lodge resort hotel near Cle Elum. Multiple fire agencies joined the fight after flames and smoke were reported at the four-star luxury resort around 2:15 a.m. Monday. Hours later, crews were still battling the stubborn blaze. "They're fighting it from both the interior and exterior of the lodge," says Kittitas Fire district 7 spokesperson Richelle Risdon. "I can see a lot of smoke coming from above the loading dock area. The guests needed to be evacuated." Firefighters conducted a room-to-room search of the 254-room lodge and found no one still inside after the evacuation. The evacuees were taken to the Inn at Suncadia. No injuries were reported. Risdon says the fire started in the attic above an office area within the lodge near the restaurant.
