A 46-year-old woman living in a transitional shelter is jailed on suspicion of causing a fire that destroyed the central gazebo in East Wenatchee's smallest public park. The structure in Ballard Park, on the corner of Valley Mall Parkway and Sunset Highway burned about 7:30 a.m. Saturday. East Wenatchee police said witnesses identified Jennifer Lee Johnson as the person who set fire to a small pile of debris at the base of the gazebo, and later entered a series of vehicles parked along Sunset Highway. The tiny park is home to a small replica of the Miss Veedol, famous for the first trans-Pacific flight. The gazebo was the park's main structure. Police said Johnson was living in an East Wenatchee transitional shelter at the time of her arrest. She has been jailed since then on $5,000 bail.
