A wildfire burning just two miles from the White Pass Ski area continues to spread despite containment efforts. Firefighters said Wednesday flames from the Miriam Fire pushed past the control line in the Hell Creek and Round Mountain areas. Containment at the fire's perimeter is now 50 percent, according to the U.S. Forest Service. Previous reports from the Forest Service indicated the fire was once 70 percent contained. The Forest Service says the fire has burned a total of 5,330 acres. Firefighters say fire behavior has subsided in some areas due to scattered showers in the past few days. Fire crews expected to have the blaze fully contained Sept. 30.
