Frefighters are partnering with the American Red Cross for the Sound the Alarm Campaign. Sound the Alarm was created for the community to prevent house fires. Pasco Firefighter, Ben Shearer said nonfunctioning fire alarms are a problem nationwide. He said more than 50 percent of residential fires that they go to are in homes without working smoke alarms. During the end of April and first week of May, firefighters will select a residential area that has a high chance of fire danger and go door to door to install working alarms in those homes. However, you don’t have to wait till then. Shearer said you can call them at any time of the year to help.
