Just over a year after becoming the first female assistant fire chief in Spokane Fire Department history, Trisha Wolford is leaving for a new job.
Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer confirms Wolford will become the new chief of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department in Maryland, where she began her firefighting career and where much of her family still resides.
Schaeffer says he'll keep the assistant fire chief open for now, while waiting to see what happens with Proposition 1 on the Feb. 12 special election ballot.
Schaeffer calls Proposition 1 a "complex financial situation." If it fails, Schaeffer says the department may lose firefighters. If that happens, he may choose not to fill the position and use Wolford's salary to pay for other firefighter positions.
