City public safety leaders say they will need more police officers, firefighters and a third ambulance to keep the growing Sun Prairie community safe. Sun Prairie Fire Police Chief Chris Garrison said needs are being met with calls volume on the east side of town but more westside growth could see service to that area could fall in the future. “I don’t believe at that point we would be giving adequate protection to that side of the city,” Garrison told city alders at the July 26 Committee of the Whole meeting. Garrison, Police Chief Pat Anhalt and EMS Director Kep Anderson brought their proposals forward as city officials try to put together a five-year financial plan and start 2017 budget discussions. Starting next year, Garrison is calling for four more full-time firefighters to staff the West Side station during the busy call volume time of weekdays and four paid-on-premise to staff during the weekdays. As part of a five-year plan, he wants to continue increasing full-time and limited time employees each year and add a full-time fire marshal.
