Police are investigating an early Thursday morning fire at The Cabaret Bar as a possible arson. Wausau Police Lt. Melinda Pauls said a caller reported flames and the sound of glass shattering at around 5 a.m. Thursday at The Cabaret on Rib Mountain Drive. Pauls said the bar was closed at the time of the fire but a witness saw someone walking near the tavern around the same time, which is one of the reasons investigators are considering the fire to be suspicious. Pauls said fire crews also smelled gasoline when they arrived at the fire. She said the fire would be investigated as being suspicious until it has been proven otherwise. No one was inside the tavern during the fire, Pauls said. She said the fire has been put out but investigators are still at the scene. Paul said she doesn't know the amount of property damages caused by the fire.
