19-year-old drowns at Washington Park in Milwaukee

One person is dead after an apparent drowning at Washington Park in Milwaukee. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office told WISN 12 News it was called to the park's pool near 40th and Galena streets. Officials with the Milwaukee Police Department, Milwaukee Fire Department and Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene just before 11:00 p.m. Wednesday. Police said a 19-year-old man and several friends climbed over a locked fence to go swimming after hours. The victim began having trouble and sank to the bottom of the water, according to police. An officer jumped in to the pool's deep end to pull the victim out. The officer and firefighters performed CPR on the victim, but he died at the scene.
