An overnight fire destroyed a shed and about 1,000 bales of hay. Firefighters from five area departments responded to the fire, which was still smoldering after sunrise Monday. It was called in about midnight, and town of Gillett firefighters arrived to find it fully engulfed, Chief Dale Reichwald said. It happened on Yarwood Road, about a quarter mile from Highway 22-32 on the town's north side. Reichwald didn't know the value of the hay or shed. The cause possibly was spontaneous combustion, but there won't be enough left of the property to provide clues to the fire's origins, he said. Firefighters saved a neighboring shed, house and garage, he said.
