A falling tree struck and injured two people Tuesday evening on the Capitol Square, according to a release from the Madison Fire Department. Firefighters were called to Carroll Street at West Washington Avenue at 6:28 p.m. Witnessed said two men were walking in the area, when the tree suddenly snapped and fell on them. Wind conditions were light, and the weather was clear and sunny. The men were taken to area hospitals after being trapped under the tree. Capitol police made arrangements for cleanup.
