VIDEO: The Town of Sheboygan is putting out an urgent call for volunteers after running into a shortage of people willing to help out in emergencies. Chief Roger Benzschawel has been volunteering with the department for nearly 20 years. "When I started on the fire department, we were doing 40 to 50 calls a year," Benzschawel said. "Now, we are doing 100 calls a year and counting." More calls means the urgent need for more firefighters. The volunteer department assisted with the fire over the weekend in the city of Sheboygan. It broke out early Sunday morning at the Embers Apartments on South Business Drive. Right now, investigators and Chief Michael Romas with the City of Sheboygan Fire Department are still trying to figure out how the fire started. "We had 37 members of our department there, but we needed more help," said Romas. "We asked our neighboring communities to come in. Thirty of those members came in. We had five different departments involved."
