A prank call of a downed plane drew the attention of many EMS services for a wasted effort Friday afternoon. Dispatchers received a 911 call that there was a plane down in the Town of Norrie, but the cell signal dropped during the call. A medical helicopter, the Hatley fire department, and the Marathon County Sheriff's Department were called in to search, but were unable to locate a plane. Another call was received claiming there was a man with a hatchet in the same area. The calls were traced to the same area in the woods and the agencies determined that the calls were pranks. Birnamwood Fire Chief Randy Berger told Newsline 9, "Wasted time of resources, we had 650 the medivac helicopter help us, and also Hatley fire searching the area... It was in roughly five-mile radius wildlife area, could have been anywhere so we needed a lot of help."
