Appleton firefighters respond to Fox River spill

Firefighters worked to identify and contain a spill in the Fox River Monday morning. Authorities were called to East Water and South Olde Oneida streets about 8:20 a.m., according to Appleton Fire Department Battalion Chief Joe Strauss. "There appears to be some kind of diesel leak that worked its way down into the river," Strauss said. "Someone identified a sheen (on the river)." The department deployed its two boats into the river. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources was also called to the scene.
