Fire causes $100,000 in damage to east Madison home

PHOTO: The Madison Fire Department says two people and seven animals are displaced from their home after a fire caused approximately $100,000 worth of damage. Neighbors noticed the house, on Madison's east side in the 5600 block of Rustic Woods Drive, on fire around 10:45 a.m. and called 911. First responders reported that the garage was fully engulfed in flames, and extended approximately 15-20 feet from the garage's west wall. Officials say crews had the fire put out within five minutes. During search and rescue operations, firefighters rescued one dog and two cats, Four more cats were retrieved by their owners and all are in good health. The owners were not home when the fire started. MFD says the interior of the home suffered some smoke damage, but the fire did not extend beyond the garage. The siding of a neighboring home sustained heat damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
