Arcing electrical wires sparked an attic fire that damaged a Baraboo home Sunday morning. Baraboo Fire Chief Kevin Stieve said the fire caused extensive damage to the home’s roof and moderate smoke damage to its main level. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the main body of the fire, which left moderate water damage. The fire was reported shortly before 7 a.m. Sunday by two passersby who noticed smoke coming from the home, which is located on the 200 block of 9th Street. Arcing wires inside a metal conduit started the fire in the rear roof area of the home, Stieve said. The wires caused a hole in the conduit, allowing the fire to start in the attic. Stieve said Bryan Wiese and Nicholas Maglietto, both of Baraboo, noticed smoke coming from the home as they traveled south on East Street and called 911 to report it.
