Beaver Dam Fire Department members have been seeing a new person shining up things around the garage. He’s Matthew Crook, 21. He and job coach Mary Fitzgerald have been handling upkeep in the fire department building for about month and will continue into December. Fitzgerald is from Bright Futures of Wisconsin where she works in employment and transition services. She started work for the group in July. Bright Futures of Wisconsin offers employment and job readiness training skills to consumers with varying abilities. Crook’s duties include sweeping, washing the floors and polishing the trucks and ambulances. Crook said that he likes to make the words on the fire truck shine. He swings by the department on Tuesdays and Thursdays for two hours. Additionally, Fitzgerald can model good social and work behaviors by working alongside Crook in the garage and the department building. Crook is constantly learning valuable social skills and work ethic. Fitzgerald said that he is interacting with the firefighters around the department.
