A Baraboo home damaged in a February 2015 blaze caught fire again Wednesday morning. Baraboo Fire Chief Kevin Stieve said the second fire at the Granite Lane home in the town of Baraboo didn’t do as much damage as the first. But the owner’s insurance company will decide if it is salvageable. “The fire was finally extinguished, but not after extensive damage to the roof and interior of the home,” Stieve said Wednesday. Upon arrival, Stieve said, he noticed heavy fire coming from the garage and extending into the house. The first firefighters on scene were able to knock down the main body of fire, but the blaze already had extended into the home’s attic. Jen Baker, who lives nearby, said she smelled smoke and heard a dog barking, so she decided to go outside and see what was happening. “A firetruck was already here,” she said, adding that the home’s owner seemed to be handling the tragedy as well as could be expected. She said children who live at the home were at school when the blaze broke out. Neighbor Becky Thruman said she was at work, and came home to get her phone when she saw firefighters battling the blaze. She said she couldn’t believe the home caught fire for the second time in 18 months. “She just got it rebuilt,” Thruman said. “It’s just so unfair.” Stieve said the same home was damaged in a Feb. 18, 2015, fire that broke out in the early morning hours. That blaze reportedly started in the chimney area of the home’s wood fire place and quickly spread to the attic before it ate a hole through the roof.
