Jacob Johnsrud, a Manitowoc resident and a firefighter with the Manitowoc Fire Department, will be inducted into the State of Wisconsin Fire and Police Hall of Fame Saturday, Sept. 10. The Hall of Fame, at The Old Firehouse and Police Museum in Superior, Wisconsin, was created to recognize firefighters and police officers from across the state for their heroic acts and dedicated public service, a press release from the State of Wisconsin Fire and Police Hall of Fame said. Johnsrud will be honored Saturday during the 11th Induction Banquet along with Dan Gengler from the Milwaukee Fire Department, Robert Anderson from the Town of Campbell Fire Department and State Trooper Trevor Casper. Each of the inductees was nominated by his peers and selected for induction by a board of firefighters and law enforcement officers from across the state. Thirty-eight firefighters and 20 law enforcement officers are currently in the Hall of Fame. Johnsrud was nominated for his actions the morning of April 14, 2008, when he came to the aid of a woman bleeding profusely from an ear-to-ear knife wound, the result of an attempted homicide. Johnsrud used his sweatshirt to control the bleeding while his fiancée and the victim’s daughter called 911 from inside his apartment, the press release said.
