VIDEO: The Waunakee Fire Department says it's working to find out what started a massive fire in the Town of Westport early Thursday morning. The fire at an eight-unit apartment complex started around 3:15 a.m. and was contained around 6:15 a.m. Firefighters were still on the scene as of 6:45 a.m. to monitor the building. When they first arrived, the first floor was fully engulfed. The Dane County Sheriff's Office helped evacuate residents and all have been accounted for. Twelve people have been displaced and are getting help from the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross if they need it. No firefighters were injured in the fire, despite how massive the flames were and how bad the smoke was. News crews were kept away for hours for safety reasons. Westport Road is still closed to through traffic as of 6:45 a.m.
