VIDEO: It was a mass exodus. Three Edgerton Fire Chiefs resigned in less than a year. "The truth is Hollywood doesn't do us any favors," New Edgerton Fire Chief Randy Pickering said. "They glamorize the parts of the job that's like 2% of what we do," he added. Chief Pickering is taking over after three previous chiefs left in rapid succession. He won't place blame, but he says a major problem was an accounting nightmare the volunteer management weren't trained to handle. "The real back story is we were burning our administrative staff, chiefs, paid-on-call, that's a recipe for failure," he said. Chief Pickering says the accounting is important for transparency and accountability and he's hoping he'll be able to lead with that message.
