Monona firefighters would join the city’s EMS personnel in being dispatched by Dane County if the Monona City Council agrees with a recommendation from a group charged with studying the emergency dispatch operations. The study looked at the entire 911 system, which included considerations of technical needs, service, staffing, security, responsiveness and cost. Currently, all 911 landline calls within Monona are received by Monona dispatch, and 911 cell phone calls are received by Dane County and transferred to Monona. All police and fire calls are dispatched by Monona, while EMS calls are dispatched by Dane County with a pre-alert to Monona dispatch when the initial calls are received by Monona. The study group’s report was discussed at the Sept. 6 council meeting.
