VIDEO: An internship program in Rock County is helping fire departments better serve the community while also teaching students what it’s like to be a firefighter. The internship program started about three years ago in Edgerton. Since then, it has expanded to other fire departments in Rock County. Now, the program is offered in Edgerton, the Town of Beloit, Milton, Orfordville and Clinton. “There is about 12-15 spots available in Rock County for interns,” Town of Beloit Fire Chief Gene Wright said. Departments across the country are always looking for good firefighters. “There’s always a need for firefighters,” Wright said. “Right now, just about every department in Rock County is hiring paid on-call firefighters.”
