Requests for bids for construction of additions to the Jacksonport Town Hall and Fire Department were released to contractors after Town Board approval of final plans for the project last week. Town Chairman Randy Halstead said the plans include erecting a new town office and meeting space in an area now used for parking on the east side of the present structure, located on Door County Highway V — a block west of State Highway 57. Also in the plans is additional space for fire apparatus. The design would allow future expansion of the fire station, Halstead said. The remodeled facility would include a 75-kilowatt electric generator, allowing the building's use as an emergency shelter. Other nearby community fire stations are already equipped with generators to provide light and heat in the event of prolonged power failures.
