Quick action by homeowners probably saved their home from fire Wednesday. “The homeowners did an excellent job in calling us immediately. It absolutely kept the fire from entering their home,” Kenosha Fire Department Battalion Chief Matt Haerter said. “Another few minutes, the fire would have spread to the attic, and we’d have a far different outcome.” Firefighters were called at 5:10 p.m. for a shed on fire near the rear of the home at 7521 16th Ave. On arrival, firefighters found the shed fully engulfed in flames and spreading toward the two-story home, Haerter said. However, firefighters was able to extinguish the blaze and keep damage to the exterior of the home. Haerter said there was minimal smoke damage, but the home is livable. The shed and its contents were destroyed, Haerter said.
