An adult and three children escaped a fire at a rental property southwest of downtown Oconomowoc on Thursday night. Firefighters were called to 621 Highland Ave. at 9:54 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16 for a structure fire and found black smoke billowing out of the home, according to a news release from Oconomowoc Deputy Fire Chief Glenn Leidel. The people inside had evacuated before the fire crews arrived. The cause of the fire and a damage estimate were unknown early Friday morning. Three rooms, the attic and roof had fire damage, and the rest of the home had "substantial smoke and water damage," the release said. According to the Oconomowoc Fire Department, the single-family home did not have working smoke detectors.
