Sun Prairie Fire Chief Chris Garrison joined other fire chiefs on Monday, Feb. 13 in calling on Gov. Scott Walker to expand the use of circuit interrupters in new Wisconsin homes -- just days after teaming up with his fellow chiefs to oppose changes to state fire sprinkler standards. “Anything under 20 units didn’t require sprinklers, which to me, is a huge step back,” Garrison said, referring to the proposed legislation that would have changed sprinkler regulations for multi-unit dwellings. Garrison said everything the Sun Prairie Fire Department does revolves around education and fire prevention. “We’ve advanced so much into the future and it actually angers me because everybody claims fires are down but they’re not down because people are doing a lot of different things, they’re down because of fire prevention and good public education,” Garrison said.
