After 32 years on the job, Brussels-Union-Gardner Assistant Fire Chief Jim Wautier is getting the additional recognition he deserves. Wautier was honored last week as the Door-Kewaunee Fire Association Firefighter of the Year for Door County at a ceremony held in Algoma. The honor was unexpected by the Brussels man who also farms when he is not at the firehouse. BUG Fire Chief Curt Vandertie calls Wautier “an effective communicator” and lauded him for taking “responsibility to get involved in all aspects of the department and always displays a strong personal commitment to successfully completing any tasks necessary.”
