A lit candle that tipped over and ignited items in a room, including a mattress, caused a fire that destroyed the upper floor of a home at 7417 36th Ave. early Sunday. A resident who lives next door to the home called the Kenosha Fire Department just after midnight on Sunday reporting smoke coming from the upper unit of the building. David Cosford said a family and other residents in the home were able to evacuate unharmed. “They were all out here and safe,” said Cosford, pointing to the sidewalk outside the damaged home.
