A Monday morning fire that rendered a long-time vacant Elk Mound home a total loss is considered suspicious, Chippewa Fire District officials said. Firefighters responded around 3:30 a.m. to the blaze at 2024 40th St., where they found the two-story structure engulfed in flames, according to a release from the fire district. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. “At that time of night,” said John Andersen, deputy chief of fire prevention for Chippewa Fire District, “there shouldn’t be anyone roaming around out there.”
