The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics for 2016 shows a sharp difference in the number of women and men in law enforcement, fire and other related fields. Across the nation, about four percent of women are firefighters and about 14 percent in law enforcement are women. However, a program in Madison is working to even out those statistics. CampHERO is held at Madison College. It is a hand-on experience helping get more than 200 girls interested in fire, police and EMT careers. Girls had the chance to learn about firefighting skills, how to analyze blood stains and crime scenes, search and rescue techniques and more.
