VIDEO: The Marathon County Solid Waste Department has listed three possible causes for a fire that broke out at the landfill Sunday afternoon. Authorities responded to the scene at around 2:00 p.m. after receiving calls from neighbors and drivers on Highway 29 about smoke billowing into the air. Department Director Meleesa Johnson said landfill fires are not unusual, and are usually caused by batteries, charcoals, or fireworks. Johnson said these causes are speculation.
