Tuesday, Beaver Dam Fire Chief Alan Mannel had some of his staff out at apartments informing residents about fire safety, which is one aspect in the 2016 annual report he wants to continue improving. Looking over the report Mannel said that informing citizens about shutting doors during a fire would significantly limit damages and possibly save lives. He said this was noticeable during the April Lakecrest Drive apartment fire. “People were inches away from flames,” he said. “Someone had to slide down the stairs on his belly to avoid the fire.”
