Two injured in house explosion in Winter

Two people were injured when a gas-fired hot water heater exploded at the James Papanek residence at 6521W Hazel Street in the village of Winter at approximately 3:15 p.m. Thursday, June 8. The explosion blew out several windows and scattered insulation and other debris across the lawn in front of and behind the single-story house. The Winter Fire Department, Radisson and Winter EMS, DNR, Exeland Fire Department, Sawyer County sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene, 100 yards east of Ellen Street and 1 1/2 blocks east of Main Street. Winter Rescue set up a medical helicopter landing zone at the ball field in Doc Smith Park.
