VIDEO: Between fire alarms and rushing out to emergency calls, firefighters see plenty of action every day. But on Wednesday, Merrill firefighters did a lot of sitting in a classroom. "Back to school," battalion chief Mike Drury said with a laugh. All 23 members of the crew sat through lessons on sentence structure and writing in the active voice. "We test for physical agility, we test for base knowledge, but one of the things we're lacking--and, I think, a lot of fire departments are lacking--is report-writing skills," Drury said.
