Crews spent hours Wednesday battling a fire that started in a wood pile at Affordable Tree Care, 3201 Highway H. The fire, which was reported about 12:30 p.m., spread from the wood pile onto parkland and up to the railroad tracks, said Mark Pierce, South Shore Fire Department division chief. A box alarm was called, bringing in additional crews from Racine, Kenosha and Milwaukee counties. Along with the fire, firefighters had to battle high winds, which reached more than 50 mph Wednesday afternoon.
