Sturgeon Bay Fire Department: Let professionals handle ice rescues

As ice conditions continue to deteriorate the Sturgeon Bay Fire Department is asking people to call 911 rather than try to personally rescue a person or animal in distress. On March 20, Carey Cregan called 911 after her dog, Halas, went through the ice on Little Lake inside Sunset Park in Sturgeon Bay. The 100-pound dog was on a leash but had somehow gotten on to the ice, Sturgeon Bay Fire Chief Tim Dietman said. The dog was on a leash but had somehow gotten on to the ice.
