The BUG Fire Department was able to contain a grass fire on the Brussels hill in southern Door County Tuesday and prevent any damage to structures. The fire was reported about 3:20 pm near the southbound lane of Highway 57. Assistant Fire Chief Jim Wautier describes what firefighters from both departments that were deployed encountered. The cause of the fire is unknown, but Wautier believes something had to spark from the road into the grass in the ditch to start it. The scene was cleared at about 4:30 pm after traffic on the southbound lane was blocked off for a brief time. Wautier says it was the biggest grass fire the department had dealt with this year.
