The city Plan Commission approved on Tuesday plans for a new fire station at Malden Avenue and Birch Street on Eau Claire’s north side. The commission approved the site plan showing the station on the 5.76-acre plat’s northern side, one of three options proposed by Five Bugles Design. The proposals on the southern side would have meant $300,000 more in construction costs largely due to soil remediation because a portion of the site used to house a landfill. The proposed one-level station would replace the three-level Fire Station No. 10 at the intersection of North Hastings Way and Birch Street.
