VIDEO: The city's Fire Chief Len Vander Wyst will retire from his position in March 2018, he announced this week. "I'll be here for a while so no need to say goodbyes at this point," Vander Wyst told the Common Council at its meeting on Wednesday night, according to video of the meeting. "Thank you for allowing me to serve the community as fire chief for almost nine years." Vander Wyst retired from Appleton's department in May 2013 but was rehired the following October. Before joining Appleton's department in 2009, he previously served as the chief of Neenah-Menasha Fire Rescue.
