Fire crews responded to a grass fire off County Road O in the Town of Marathon Wednesday afternoon. SAFER Chief Matt Savage says the call came in before 4 PM. A large field was in flames upon their arrival. Additional crews from Marathon Fire, Mosinee Fire and Wausau DNR responded. Firefighters spent the next two hours extinguishing the blaze and putting out hotspots. No one was injured and no nearby buildings were damaged. "Just be very careful until it starts greening up," said Savage. "With the snowfall that we've had and the relatively cool spring, now that the sun's out and the wind's out, things are drying out rather quickly and it doesn't take much."
