Multiple grass fires broke out Thursday near a set of railroad tracks at Old Highway 51. Firefighters responded just after 1 p.m. to a series of reports of fires stretching from Maple Ridge Road to Kowalski Road. The fires were under control by 2 p.m. but still smoldering as firefighters doused hot spots. The area is under a high-risk burn watch because of dry conditions, said Bradley Wolff, a Kronenwetter police officer. He said residents should be on alert for the strong potential for wildfires. Firefighters from Kronenwetter, Mosinee and the SAFER Fire District responded. No houses were damaged by the fires, Wolff said.
