The City of Wauwatosa Fire Department has received the Insurance Services Office (ISO) Public Protection Classification rating of Class 1. This rating has only been received by six fire departments in Wisconsin and approximately 300 nationwide. The ISO currently evaluates over 50,000 fire departments with only less than 1% earning the Class 1 rating. This rating reflects the overall commitment that the City of Wauwatosa has made towards creating a safer community.
The ISO rating process evaluates three main areas of a community – Emergency Communications (911 Dispatch), Water Supply (fire hydrants and available water), and the Fire Department (operations, training, community risk reduction). After this evaluation, each department is graded on a scale of one – ten with a “Class 1” being the best available rating.
The ISO’s Public Protection Classification program plays an important role in the underwriting process at insurance companies across the nation
