The La Crosse Fire Department was dispatched Thursday night to a fire at Eagle Hall on the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse campus. The fire alarms triggered the response at 6:47 P.M. Firefighters encountered a moderate amount of smoke on the first floor. Fire Inspectors later determined that a floor fan that malfunctioned started the fire. The fan was placed in the hallway earlier in the day to dry the carpets after they were cleaned. A sprinkler above the fan was able to contain the fire as fire crews searched the building and vented the smoke. There was minimal fire and smoke damage to the building. UWL crews were on scene after the 'all clear' to clean up the water damage.
