After their largest flood in the town's recent history, La Farge is left picking up the pieces.
"We thought we had time, but we didn't because the water rose so rapidly here," Assistant Fire Chief Troy Deaver said.
Officials said the Kickapoo river crested at 19.42 feet.
"It got into our electrical infrastructure, transfer switch generators," Village President Greg Lawton said. "We've been out of power now for going on 48 hours."
Lawton estimated the damage to the electrical infrastructure at over $1 million.
It's the third year in a row they have dealt with increasingly worsening floods.
"We've relocated most of our flood prone victims or residents, so it isn't as impacted on the residential area," Deaver said.
Downtown was a different story, where one family wasn't so lucky.
