The Cambridge Area Fire Commission is reaching out to the community in hopes of finishing a fire engine capital campaign by the end of December. The total bill is $750,000. That includes about $570,000 for one engine in 2019 and $180,000 that will go into a fund to replace a second fire truck due to be retired in 2020. To date, the five municipalities in the Cambridge Area Fire District – Cambridge, Rockdale and the Towns of Christiana, Oakland and Lake Mills — have collectively contributed $250,000. The Cambridge Area Fire Commission has additionally given $46,000 out of its apparatus fund. And some local residents have stepped up, so far contributing $8,000 in cash.
